GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional version of Florida. Rockstar has officially named six regions, Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar developers say the map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's, but no official square-mile figure exists, so any exact size is an estimate.

The six official regions
Rockstar introduced these regions on the "Only in Leonida" section of its GTA VI site in May 2025, alongside Trailer 2. The descriptions below summarize Rockstar's own write-ups.

Vice City
Rockstar sells Vice City as a place of glamour, hustle and greed. Named areas include Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port, which Rockstar bills as the cruise ship capital of the world. Several characters, such as Boobie Ike and Dre'Quan Priest, are based here.
Leonida Keys
A chain of tropical islands where life moves slowly, next to waters Rockstar calls both beautiful and dangerous. Jason worked for drug runners here, and Brian Heder's history is tied to the Keys' smuggling days.
Grassrivers
A vast mangrove wetland. Alligators are its best-known residents, but Rockstar hints at more dangerous predators and strange discoveries out in the swamp. Coverage of the gameplay reveal compared these swamps to Florida's Everglades.
Port Gellhorn
Once a popular vacation spot, now a town of shuttered attractions and empty malls. Rockstar jokes that its new economy runs on malt liquor, painkillers and truck-stop energy drinks.
Ambrosia
A town in the heart of Leonida. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery supplies the jobs, and a local biker gang supplies much of everything else.
Mount Kalaga National Park
A national landmark on Leonida's northern edge, known for hunting, fishing and off-road trails. Rockstar says its backwoods are home to eccentric mystics and paranoid radicals.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has never published an official area in square miles or kilometers. What exists are relative comparisons from Rockstar developers, reported by the press:

Treat any precise number you see online as an estimate. The comparisons also depend on how big you think GTA 5's map was, and estimates of that vary too. Garbut has stressed detail over raw size, saying any random spot on the map is something people have thought about.
Other confirmed world details
- Weather: Rockstar told Game Informer that Leonida has tropical storms and hurricanes. How often they happen and how they affect gameplay hasn't been explained.
- Wildlife: Rockstar cited more than 170 animal species, including birds, land mammals and sea life such as sharks and whales.
What's not confirmed
- County lines or a full place list. Beyond the six regions and named Vice City areas, Rockstar hasn't published a complete map.
- Liberty City. It's only mentioned in Lucia's backstory. There's no official word you can visit it.
- Leaked maps. Fan-made and leaked maps aren't official, so we don't use them here.
